European expertise and advocacy come together with IRF’s international network to advance safer, greener, more inclusive and efficient road systems.
Brussels/Geneva, 15 October 2026 – The International Road Federation (IRF) and the European Union Road Federation (ERF) today mark a major milestone in their unification, with ERF’s European activities, technical work and stakeholder relationships now integrated into IRF.
The move follows the decisions taken by the respective memberships earlier this year and brings together IRF’s international network and programmes with ERF’s long-established presence within the European road infrastructure and policy community.
The unification creates a stronger platform for the road and mobility community to exchange knowledge, shape policy and technical priorities, and turn shared ambitions for safer, greener, more inclusive and efficient road systems into practical action.
Dimitrios Mandalozis, President of the International Road Federation, said:
“Bringing ERF’s European expertise and relationships into IRF gives us a stronger platform both in Europe and internationally. Europe plays a major role in shaping the future of road infrastructure, from safety and resilience to digitalisation, standards, and investment. Our ambition is to preserve the depth of engagement that ERF has built in Brussels while connecting it much more directly to the knowledge, experience and opportunities available through the wider IRF network. Together, we can give our sector a stronger voice with European institutions and international partners, while enabling European and global experience to inform and strengthen each other. For our members, this means more opportunities to contribute to policy, share practical expertise, and build partnerships that deliver safer, more sustainable, and resilient roads.”
Joseph Marra, President of the European Union Road Federation, said:
“For ERF members, continuity has always been an essential part of this process. The Working Groups, technical expertise and trusted relationships developed through ERF remain very much alive; they now have a broader institutional home and a wider international reach. This is a natural next step which allows us to retain a strong European voice while giving our members access to a truly global platform.”
Note to media:
From 15 October, information on IRF’s European activities will progressively be available through a dedicated European presence on the IRF website. ERF’s existing communications channels will also begin transitioning to IRF in Europe, allowing the established ERF community to remain connected throughout the transition.
The existing ERF website will remain available during the migration period, preserving access to ERF publications, policy positions and other institutional material. The technical migration of legacy content and communications systems will continue over the coming months. ERF-branded material of continuing reference value will remain accessible with its original attribution.
