EUPAVE debate on “Climate resilience and long-term transport investment”

On Wednesday 25^th January, EUPAVE (the European Concrete paving Association) organised an online debate on the topic of ‘Climate resilience and long-term transport investment’, which gathered representatives from the public and private sector, as well as from the European Commission.

ERF Director General, Christophe Nicodème, had been invited to open and moderate the event.

This event was hosted by MEP Isabel Garcia Muñoz, who presented the main challenges that EU is facing in terms of climate-proofing infrastructure. She underlined the importance of fighting against climate change and highlighted the EU actions to make Europe climate-neutral by 2050, in line with the Paris agreement.

This introduction was followed by a welcome word from Mr. Stéphane Nicoud, President of EUPAVE, who reminded the numerous benefits of concrete and how concrete pavements can contribute to make roads more sustainable.

The second part of the event consisted of 3 presentations delivered respectively by Mr. Luc Rens, Managing Director of Eupave, who underlined the importance of long-term vision on transport investment policy.

Mr. Jim Mack, Director market Development of Cemex USA then discussed pavement resilience based on experience with floodings in the US.

Finally, Mr. Claus Kondrup, Senior Expert DG CLIMA (EC) presented ‘The European Commission Technical Guidance on the climate-proofing infrastructure 2021-2027’.
